Privacy Policy

Bolchaal is operated by Trei ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the app uses your microphone, what we collect and store, and how you can delete your data.

Microphone and voice clips

• The microphone is used only while you hold the "Hold to speak" button. It is off the rest of the time.
• Your voice clip is sent to our server to be processed and give you feedback. The audio itself is not stored — it is discarded right after processing.

What we keep, and for how long

• Transcript and correction text — what you said, the corrected sentence, the tip and the teacher's reply — kept for 30 days to improve the quality of feedback, then deleted.
• Anonymous account ID — a Firebase anonymous ID with no name, email or phone number attached.
• Practice usage events — which mode you used, session length and similar analytics events — kept for 90 days.
• Crash and error reports — sent automatically via Firebase Crashlytics and to our own server if the app crashes or hits an error, to help us fix bugs.
• Practice failure records — when a practice turn fails on our side, we store the time, your anonymous account ID, which practice item it was and the technical error, for 90 days, to find and fix outages.
• Notification token and settings — see the "Notifications" section.
• Device ID for the daily usage count — see the "Daily usage count" section.

We do not collect your contacts, location, photos or any government ID.

Daily usage count

Once a day, when you open the app on Android, it sends the app name and your phone's Android ID (a device identifier) to our server. We use this only to count how many different devices used Bolchaal each day. It is not linked to your name, email or phone number, it is not used for advertising, and it is not shared with anyone. To have your device ID removed from this count, email us at the address below.

Notifications

The app registers a push notification token (a device identifier issued by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging) and sends it to our server together with three settings: your explanation language (Hindi, Hinglish or English), whether your daily reminder is on, and whether notifications are allowed. The token is stored against your anonymous account ID.

• We use it only to send practice notifications: a come-back reminder after 2 and 7 days without practice, an evening reminder when a practice streak is about to break, and occasional announcements about the app, for example new missions.
• You get at most one notification a day, and none between 9:30 pm and 8:00 am India time. There is no advertising, and nothing about other apps.
• To decide who gets which reminder, we use the practice days we already store. We also keep a log of which notification was sent to which anonymous account on which day, for 90 days.
• You can turn these off in the app under Settings → "Practice nudges", or by turning off notifications for Bolchaal in Android settings. The daily reminder you set yourself is an alarm on your phone and is not sent from our server.

Teacher voice

The teacher's lines are turned into audio on our own server and sent to the app to play. The app sends only the teacher's line and your choice of voice (female or male) — never your own recording. A teacher line written during your practice can include words you said, for example your name. Its audio clip is stored on our server without your account ID and is deleted within about 10 weeks of last being played. A copy is kept on your phone so it plays quickly; "Delete my data" removes that copy. If you choose "Phone ki awaaz" in Settings, no audio is requested and your phone speaks the lines itself.

No ads, no payments

Bolchaal has no ads and no in-app payments. We do not collect payment details.

Who processes your data

• Our own servers, hosted in India, which handle your practice turns and store the transcript, correction text, usage events, practice failure records, notification token and log, and daily usage count described above.
• Google Firebase, for the anonymous account ID, analytics and crash reporting, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), which delivers the notifications.
• OpenRouter and Google Gemini, used to generate the correction and Hinglish tip when our own server is busy or unavailable.

Deleting your data

Open Settings in the app and tap "Mera data delete karo" ("Delete my data") to permanently delete your usage history, transcripts, correction text, reactions, notification token, notification log and practice failure records from our servers. This cannot be undone. The daily usage count is kept separately; to remove your device ID from it, email us at the address below.

Children

Bolchaal is not directed at children under 13.
